At 8 months

So Myiesha has reached her 8 months. She is 8 months in week 1 now. Yes, she is doing well, alhamdullillah, and yes, she is fun to be with. When she poops, she will make the "mum im smelly" face. When she wants something, she will grab it. She she does something she thinks its wrong, she will look at our faces to see our reaction, as in like testing us. When my better half sneezes loudly in the bathroom, she will grab me by the neck and looking in the bathroom- probably scared.

When I say "barney" or her current favourite "Pocoyo", she will look at the telly and smile.

She calls out for Mamamamamama and apapapapaapapa a lot. She is very attached to the both of us, I would say. When I am not around, her appa will have to hold her hand to sleep. When he is back late from work, I will have to play with her until she is tired, and yet she will still try and wait for him to come and give her a good nite kiss before she falls asleep. Most of the time, he would come back just before her bedtime, and if he has to go out again, he'd go after she was well in dream land.

Oh, and her bedtime is now slightly later then before, she sleeps around 8.30 pm.

So, what should we feed 8-10 month old?

• Breast milk or formula, PLUS
• Small amounts of soft pasteurized cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese (but no cows' milk until age 1)
• Iron-fortified cereals (rice, barley, wheat, oats, mixed cereals)
• Mashed fruits and vegetables (bananas, peaches, pears, avocados, cooked carrots, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes)
• Finger foods (lightly toasted bagels, cut up; small pieces of ripe banana; well-cooked spiral pasta; teething crackers; low-sugar O-shaped cereal)
• Small amounts of protein (egg, pureed meats, poultry, and boneless fish; tofu; well-cooked and mashed beans with soft skins like lentils, split peas, pintos, black beans)
• Non-citrus juice (apple or pear)

and how much per day?

• ¼ to 1/3 cup dairy (or ½ oz. cheese)
• ¼ to ½ cup iron-fortified cereal
• ¼ to ½ cup fruit
• ¼ to ½ cup vegetables
• 1/8 to ¼ cup protein foods
• 3 to 4 oz. non-citrus juices

Looks like I am not feeding her enough Fruits and veges. I need to add more of those when mixing with her baby rice. Luckily she is getting enough fish and chicken, so far. I haven't started her on red meats yet- advised by my mother in law. But I will start very soon, probably this weekend.

As for mama, I have lost more weight since having no maid. But I'm not complaining. I have 6 kg's to go before I get back to my high school weight. (which is impossible, but hey, the lower I target, the quicker I will get back to my ideal weight).

With no maid...

When you have no maid or still waiting patiently for your new maid to come, what do you do? Do you:

1) take leave to care for your beloved?
2) send them to your parents?
3) send them to your parents in law?
4) send them to a day care?

Well, I have been doing 1 and 3 a lot. Soon, option 2 will also be in my "must do" list. But what about option 4? I'm still quite skeptical, but if I don't have a choice, how do i go about it? Ive heard some real horror stories, but then again, Ive also seen some of my workmates who don't have an issue with option 4. And they are even happy with the result as their child is connecting well with other babies. But, the down side is, when you start exposing your baby/child with other babies/child, the tendency of one "infecting" the other is quite high.
One of my god friends I just heard is sending her little one to a well known nursery. And she is adapting well to it. (and the little one is too).
She pays about RM700 a month for the day care from 8am to 6 pm. A bit on the steep side,as you think if you have maid, you pay the maid about 200 less and she will do the ironing, cooking and cleaning bit as well.
But I guess a nursery will not bring up issues such as maids running away, maids going out during the day to see "friends" and bringing your lil one with them (or worse, leaving them on their own during their nap times), or maids falling for your neighbour's husband or your husband.

So I googled a few places and yet it's hard to find an attractive place. The best is still through friend's or family. Their experience is quite vital when making huge decisions which effects your lil one.
Here's one, which I heard is quite good, but I have not visited the place, so I wouldn't know for sure. Small Wonder.

Her first...

Her first tooth- the bottom 2 front ones at the age of 5 and 1/2 months
Her first cold- (runny nose, not fever) at 6 and 1/2 months due to the aircond. Lasted for 1 week until my better half fixed the aircond and wah lah, her runny nose also gone.
Her first crawl- at 7 months and 1 week
Her first fall- off the bed at 7 months and 3 weeks. OUCH for me, but luckily no bruises, no vomiting, limbs were fine, she even laughed about it.
Phew, Nevertheless, I am still monitoring her for the next few days. I also learned that we shouldn't let the baby go to sleep straight after a fall, in case we dont know if it's concussion or just tiredness. And I also found out that baby's skull is quite soft, so for any falls which are less then 3 feet, its is normally harmless, and babies/toddlers adapts to fall better then adults due to their flexibility. But if you're worried, just drop by at the doctors.
Her first words- "dee" at 4 months
Her first pet- our cats. Which she uses to practice crawling
